This book made me re visit our experience of our 15 year old son who was bullied at school and tried to commit suicide because of the constant abuse and degregation. Schools have to take control of these people who seem to take control of so many lives.

I don't know if this was just a weird coincidence, but in the movie Stand By Me there is a boy with the last name Ducharm without the "e". It's really similar though, so I was wondering if there was supposed to be a connection? Just pointing it out.

I just finished Ninteen Minutes and loved it but I was wondering if by chance Patrick is the father of Nina's little girl from Perfect Match? The time frame works out to when they were together in Perfect Match. Anyone else think this? Jodi... could you confirm or deny?

Questions about Josie and her story and her sentencing (spoiler)

Okay, so Josie shot Matt the first time, then Peter came and shot him in the head. Here's my question: Patrick found Josie in the locker room unconscious next to Matt with a gash on her head. After we find out that Josie shot Matt, then Peter shot him again, we don't find out how it is that Josie ends up unconscious with a gash on her head. Jodi ends the chapter with Peter shooting Matt then cuts back to the courtroom.

Also, was Josie tried as an adult or a juvenile?...

Hi, I am really enjoying "Nineteen Minutes" as I have all the other Jodi books I have read to date (most of them!), but as a parent of a 5 year old who started school life last September - in the UK the start of primary is 4-5 years, most having done one or two years before at a preschool or nursery, I was completely shocked that children in the US seem to just be put on a school bus on their first day and sent to school alone.

I just wanted to say what a great book! I couldn't put it down and it really made me think for days after i'd finished it. I thought it was quite sad how in schools in America everyone is separated into groups with the popular kids and the geeks etc. You dont really get that so much in England. Also I did feel sorry for Peter for all the bullying but I was glad he went to prison for what he did. Even though his life must have been hell, the so called bullies didn't desreve to...

I loved this book. So much that I am totally addicted to Jodi Picoult and buying her books one by one and reading them! I have never been a reader but I am so addicted!

Anyway, here is one of my "disappointments" if you even want to call it that...

I was hoping for more about her Father. I thought that the exchange was great however, I do not think it should have ended there. I was thinking maybe she would tell Alex and that would spark a lot of things....

I've just read Nineteen Minutes and I absolutely loved the book, however as it is for a school assignment I have to read another book with similar ideas, themes and issues and then compare the two. Anyone have any ideas on books that deal with similar issues?

I LOVED this book! But for being such a young reader, it was hard for me to take in.

Personally, I see no resemblance of Josie's high school and my high school. We don't have "golden couples" we don't have that kind of bullying. All of the kids I have talked to have NEVER experienced such bullying. My high school is NOT perfect, but I have never even seen such bullying.

I see Josie as a weakling. She did NOT stand up for what she wanted and seemed...

okay so my question is, did Josie purposely kill Matt.. or did she just not want to kill Peter so she aimed at the wall and it accidently shot Matt.. that is what i think, because i don't think she would purposely kill her boy friend even thought it was an abusive relationship. please correct me if I'm wrong, but that is what i think.. any other opinions? I loved this book, it is still an all time fave of mine from Jodi... I graduated high school going on 7 years ago, I was actually a sophomore when Columbine happened, I remember it being all on the television when I got off the school bus that day... I sat there and watched it and I couldn't believe that was actually happening at a place like I was going every day. It was very surreal. I still remember the high school atmosphere and it was so easy to jump back into it when I read this...

I know no one deserves to die, but when matt died i was happy. He was very abusive to Josi and i HATED it. No one should get treated that way! Also matt was very mean to peter. He just seemed like one of the jerks in school and i HATE guys like that.

So I read "Nineteen Minutes" in four days. I couldn't put it down. It was a great novel in my opinion, but I'm a little bit confused. I got to the last ten pages or so and found myself confused. Did Josie purposely shoot Matt, or did she shoot at Peter and the bullet richocheted off of the wall and hit Matt? Maybe I missed something, but I am very confused as to when Gun B was fired the 2nd time when it jammed. The first shot was Josie shooting Matt, but then she drops the gun and it is never shot again. When it was recovered it was jammed with a double feed. So how was it jammed with a double feed if it was never shot again?
