I haven't seen anyone post yet about Alex being pregnant at the end. This is the part the actually bothered me the most. It seemed like Josie was effectively being replaced or Alex was getting a "do over" for not being a better mother in the past. What do you all interpret from Alex's pregnancy?

Heyyy soo I'm in love with Jodi's books! And I'm trying to figure out which one I should read next. So far I read My Sister's Keeper, Nineteen Minutes, Perfect Match, Vanishing Acts, Mercy, Salem Falls, and The Pact..any thoughts??

This book was incredible! I am a woman that was not in the "popular" crowd growing up...dealt with some teasing/taunting...although not this severe...I have 3 teenage sons...one who recently came out of jail for a short time. I am an elementary teacher. Wow is what I have to say about this book. I think EVERYONE needs to read this book...parents, teachers, pre teens, teens...everyone! I have NEVER had a book to affect me so much! I have never read a book that made me cry so...

this was a great book...very eye opening...it goes with out saying, how powerful a single word can be to someone..i remember being made fun of in grade school...of course i didnt do anything like this kid did...but looking back at some of the kids that made fun of me be chubby, i did get over it..their lives turned out alot different than they thought...one football star ended up driving drunk @ his best friend died as the result of the accident, he did jail time @ ended up being a...

What do you think Josie was ultimately charged with that put her in jail for only 4 years? I think it was probably murder in the second degree at the most: she would have gone through a trial of her own following her confession, and probably talked about the abusive part of their relationship, resulting in a lighter sentence. thoughts?

I'm currently reading nineteen minutes and as a student who just graduated high school (yay!) I found that high school was portrayed completely wrong. I'm from Canada so I'm not sure if this was an accurate description of what high schools in the U.S. are like, but if so, that sucks. I also couldn't believe that kids would pick on a 5 year old child. I have never seen or heard of any bullying to that extent. Please let me know if this is what high school is like for Americans....

I'm new around here, but I wanted to bring something up that I noticed while reading Nineteen Minutes.

Did any of you notice the similarities to The Pact? Not big storyline things, just small things. For instance: There's a line about Josie liking math because if you worked hard enough you always got the right answer. And I could swear the same thing was said about Emily in The Pact. Also, in Nineteen Minutes, when Peter's father takes him...

Hi, I was wondering how Jodi came up with the name of Josie Cormier, because that is also my name(Josephine)! You can imagine the surprise I felt when my friend told me that the main character of her book was not only named Josie but Josie Cormier! I am from Louisiana, hence the Cajun name, but Picoult is also French. Thanks for your time and for making my name famous! haha!

I read Nineteen Minutes a while back, and let me say that it's a story that sticks with you.

I have some thoughts though. I can understand how kids want to be part of the popular crowd and all that. But how did Josie get from looking down on the popular girls who were fake to wanting to be friends with them? Was it because of the time that she and Courtney were partners for a school project? I do not fully understand why Alex did not instruct Josie to quote the Fifth Amendment to protect herself, or at least, kept her informed about the option. There is a legally possible way between giving the full confession and doing a perjury. It looks to me that Josie had not fully prepared to undertake the consequence. After all, last second the girl was not willing to sit at the witness seat and how come the next she could do something which would put her in a cell for years?
