Was Amos in on the rape of Addie as a teenager? I think I missed something there. I know Charlie raped her, but weren't their three guys involved? I am thinking Amos was one of them?

This is for those of you who read The Pact before you read Salem Falls.

When I read The Pact, I thought Selena was a white, Caucasian woman. But when I read Salem Falls, Selena was referred to a few times as an Africian American woman. She even called herself chocolate at one point.

Did anybody see any clues to...

Once I got father in the novel, I began to suspect that Amos was molesting Gillian, which Jodi confirmed in the end. However, when Gillian said that she was raped, I thought she telling the truth. I thought Wes chased Jack into the woods, Jack got away, but Wes raped Gill. That's why I thought the semen was on her thigh. I understand the ending, and once I got a little farther in the book I could sense it. I just needed Jodi to confrim, which she did. However, I have a question. Am I the only one who suspected that Wes may have raped her? He was just so pushy w/ Addie that that fueled my suspicions. Also, I thought he was the one who chased Jack into the woods, so I thought Gillian wasn't lying at all about the rape. I did get the picture when Jodi included scenes...

Hi, just finished Salem falls! Took me a while to get into it but when I did it was great! can anyone tell me if Amos had been the one who abused Meg and was Amos in the woods that night? Did anyone find at certain points Gilly seemed to get on very well with Amos considering the situation?

Jodi Picoult is an excellent writer but she should have hired somebody to translate the Spanish phrases she used when Jack's mother was in labor with him. It is very obvious that she used a translation program. When you are going to use a secondary language you have to make sure that you are writing it properly. For example...

"primero salvo mi bebe"....salvo - salve
"no pueda"...pueda - puedo

Did any one else notice on page 208 when Jack is put into the solitary cell after refusing to wear the prison uniform it says, "Jack sat back down and inspected his fingernails. He scratched at a loose thread in his jeans." But a few pages back (201) it says he glanced down at his t-shirt, boxers and sweatpants he purchased with Addie. Pretty minor error...I just happened to notice because he makes a big deal out of wearing his own clothes and not wanting to change into the...

The judge's assistant is clearly named Mark, correct? Yet at the bottom of the page, it says;

I just finished Salem Falls and LOVED IT! It's probably one of the best Jodi books I've ever read. However, I got to the part when they were in court and was so lost. I was very confused during the whole DNA explanation. I had to read it and reread it over and over. It wasn't until I read the stuff on the boards that I finally understood. Did anyone else have this problem?

And, as much as I love Jodi books, did anyone think the whole thing with Meg was kinda weird? This...

This is definitely one of my favorite books by Jodi, alongside "The Pact", "Nineteen Minutes", and "My Sisters Keeper". I also think this was one of her best.
I could not put it down - literally!
This book puts you on the edge and is a real page turner - you are always wondering what is going to happen next.
(I had the exact same experience with "The Pact").

I found it disturbing when Charlie spoke to Adie and said he was sorry about raping her that night and Amos was there too. I wonder if she can still press charges against them, I don't know why she doesn't move town when Charlie and Amos are in the same town, Amos must feel wierd around her. If I was Adie I would punch charlie or at least try an get revenge in some way.

When jodi wrote about the witchcraft in salem falls, she actually made the spells that gillian and her friends used work. People who don't believe in the supernatural might finds this book a load of nonsense, however I do believe in the supernatural, and even if someone doesn't its still a great read and i think Jodi was brave to include witchcraft in her book incase it put her audience off.
She seems to know so much knowledge in all her books, she must have done a heck of alot of...

Has anyone else read one of Jodi's books and the court case has been similiar to one they have had.
I particularly enjoyed reading Salem Falls because I once took a guy to court for sexual assault, however, he was guilty and he got away with it.
Does anyone else read her books because of their experiences?
did the ending of Salem falls leave anyone else heartbroken?

Did anyone else notice this typing error on page 392, when Addie is on the stand:

"She looked at Matt Houlihan, then at the judge. She leaned towards the bench and whispered something to Althea Justice, who nodded."

I was too absorbed in the story the first time to notice this, but it was only later, when re-reading it, that I noticed! I immediately assumed Jodi meant Addie whispered something to Althea, but then I realised that it could only be Matt Houlihan. On...

Heartbreaking Ending (spoilers)

AMAZING! Only Jodi could think of an ending like that, which was even better because even though it ended happily for Jack, the idea that Gillian still had go through that practically crushed my heart. I love the way she does that -- that to every flip side, there is yet another flip side, and a happy ending is never really a happy ending. It was just so...well-constructed, and simply perfect. I found myself in complete shock.

This story is every teachers nightmare, I was fasinated my the typically mysterious ending as we often see in Jodi's book, I had sort of expected it to happen, and wondered why no other character in the book suspected it.
What does everyone else think
