I loaned the Plain Truth (my favorite J.P. novel) to a friend who just finished it. She called me this morning with some questions! I hope I answered right. I thought that the baby was smothered by his grandma while mama slept (after the birth). My friend wondered about the scissors, but maybe she took them from the barn to help hide any evidence of a baby??
